The Hare's Backpack

A Lenten Tradition

Our Mission

Our mission is to serve as a reminder of the glory, essence, and purpose of the holy Lenten season. We preserve the tradition by encouraging families to consider and write down their personal commitment(s) during this holy time of year. Our hope is to foster spiritual connection, reflection, and growth within families. Our goal is not only to educate youth about the significance of Lent but also to make it engaging and purposeful. By embracing this tradition, we aim to inspire simple acts of kindness, and a deeper connection to faith, ensuring that the backpack-filled promises become a gentle reminder for all who seek a meaningful Lenten journey that draws them closer to God.

Lent

Lent is a sacred period observed in the Christian faith, spanning 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday. It holds deep significance as a time for spiritual reflection, growth, and understanding. Lent encourages Christians to connect with their faith through practices such as prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, fostering a sense of empathy, compassion, and gratitude. It's a time when children can learn about the life of Jesus, his sacrifice, and the importance of self-discipline, while also participating in age-appropriate Lenten activities. Ultimately, Lent serves as an educational and transformative journey, helping both children and adults develop a deeper appreciation for their faith and the values it represents.

The Backpack

In the enchanting 'Hare on the Stair' tale, a beloved tradition takes center stage, revolving around a captivating and meaningful character: the Hare carrying an important backpack. This charming story unfolds within the cozy confines of a family home, where a Hare is tenderly placed on the staircase at the start of Lent. Its backpack becomes a symbol of profound significance and serves as a gentle but constant reminder of the season's purpose.

Within the backpack, Lenten promises find their home; each one is a pledge made by a family member. These promises are not merely words on paper; they are heartfelt commitments to growth, reflection, and kindness during this sacred season. The backpack becomes a vessel for the family's collective aspirations to follow the word of God and a testament to the power of tradition in fostering personal and spiritual development.
